About Us

Military Families Speak Out is an organization of people opposed to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan who have relatives or loved ones currently in the military, or who have served in the military since the fall of 2002. Formed by two families in November of 2002, we have contacts with military families throughout the United States, and in other countries around the world. Our membership currently includes close to 4,000 military families, with new families joining weekly.

MFSO Metro is a chapter based in the New York metropolitan area.  We have been active in organizing demonstrations against the United States presence in Iraq and Afghanistan and have worked with other groups opposed to the Middle East wars.  We have petitioned to end unfair multiple deployments of military members which lead to post-traumatic stress disorder and hardship for families of military members.  We have petitioned to keep our New York State National Guard here, many of whom are first responders who would be essential to our safety in an emergency.  We have successfully secured preference for Iraq veterans in public housing, before only extended to Vietnam vets.  As people with family members and loved ones in the military, we know that it is our loved ones who are, or have been, or will be on the battlefront. It is our loved ones who are at risk, who have been injured or who have died as a result of these wars. It is our loved ones who are returning scarred from their experiences, who are suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
