Is war with Iran imminent?

Over the past few weeks there has been a lot of media speculation about the possibility of a U.S. War with Iran. Both the New York Times and Washington Post have come under fire for implying that Iran already has a nuclear program, and there were a number of articles reporting on plans for joint U.S.-Israeli military exercises which were later postponed. President Obama’s former special assistant on Iran gave an interview stating, “No one should doubt that President Barack Obama is prepared to use military force to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon if sanctions and diplomacy fail.” At the same time, 40,000 U.S. Troops have been stationed throughout the region with strong implications that they are there to counter any perceived threats by Iran. Could war with Iran be imminent?

What do you think MFSO should do about the growing threat of war with Iran?

MFSO was founded in 2002 by military families who spoke out against the U.S. plan to invade Iraq in an effort to stop it from happening. These families then organized to end the war once it began. In 2008, by a popular yet contentious vote of the membership, the organization adopted a focus on ending the war in Afghanistan as part of our mission. Now in 2012, the Iraq War is over; the Afghanistan War is continuing but with the promise of an end in sight, and the possibility of a war with Iran seems to be growing. As an organization of military families, it is our loved ones who will be deployed to fight this war, our families who will pay the human cost of military intervention.

Is it time for us to speak out and take a stand against another pre-emptive war?

*UPDATE February 2, 2012* The survey has been closed and the results are clear: 88% of members who responded to the survey believe MFSO should take a stand against a possible war with Iran.

Dear Friends, I am disheartened by what appears to be the capture of our government by forces that serve short term greed and hegemony at the cost of everything that this nation once represented.

A war with Iran is total insanity.

Whatever course of action that we have collectively pursued in the past has failed us. It makes it very difficult then to suggest actions that may have any real impact.

My own effort have focused on providing alternative sources of information for people.

Thank you for any and all efforts towards countering an attack on Iran.
